Expansion and Differentiation of H7 Human Embryonic Stem Cells in Chemically Defined Medium Using Corning® Synthemax™ Surface 21 Jun 2010: In this application note Corning Synthemax Surface is used to support long-term self-renewal and differentiation of H7 hESCs. Cells demonstrated a stable doubling time, high level of expression of hESC phenotypic markers (Oct4, SSEA4 and TRA-1-60) and normal karyotype. Corning Synthemax Surface also supported successful directed differentiation of H7 cells into functional cardiomyocytes, proving suitability of Corning Synthemax Surface for both expansion and differentiation of hESC culture. Human Oncostatin M is Functionally Equivalent to Mouse LIF in Supporting Mouse ES Cell Pluripotency & Germline Competency 21 Jun 2010: In this application note R&D Systems demonstrate human OSM is able to maintain ES cell pluripotency in a similar manner to mouse LIF, including long-term maintenance of pluripotency and the ability to differentiate in vitro, the ability to activate STAT3, and germline transmission competency. The study suggests that OSM may be an additional factor that plays a role in early embryonic development and that it may be used as an alternative to LIF in mouse ES cell culture. R&D Systems, Inc.
